Teen Tuesday features Monster by Walter Dean Myers. Monster was written in 1999 and won the very first Printz award twenty years ago. It was also a National Book Award Finalist as well as a Coretta Scott King Author Honor. Monster is the story of Steve Harmon who is on trial for felony murder after a convenience story robber goes wrong. It is told alternately in the first-person as a diary and in the third as a screenplay. The story flashes backward from his trial where prosecutors attempt to portray Steve as a monster who deserves a prison sentence.
