#tbt: Unwind by Neal Shusterman

Unwind by Neal Shusterman. 352 p. Unwind Dystology #1. Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, November, 2007. 9781416912040.

#tbt features Unwind by Neal Shusterman. Unwind was publisher in 2007 and is the first book of the Unwind Dystology.  Three teens, Connor, Risa and Lev are about to enter an "unwind" facility, where they will have their body parts harvested as needed. In a future United States, abortion is outlawed, but minors may end up in an unwinding facility one of three ways - their parents turn them over due to the teen's incorrigibility; they are orphans and the state can no longer care for them; or they are tithed as part of a religious sacrifice. The three unlikely companions find a way to escape and, if they can just remain free until their eighteenth birthday, the state can no longer touch them. Shusterman's dystopian world is utterly believable in this unputdownable page-turner!
