#tbt: Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage

Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage. 314 p. Dial Books for Young Readers/ Penguin Young Readers, 2012. 9780803736702. (Own.)

Happy Thursday! Oops! Friday. I started this post yesterday, but forgot to publish it. Such a busy day!

#tbt features Three Times Lucky by Sheila Turnage. Eleven-year-old Mo LeBeau is a rising sixth grader with a best friend named Dale and insatiable curiosity about her "Upstream Mother." You see, Mo was rescued from a flood when she was a newborn and no one came looking for her. Both she and the Colonel were taken in by Miss Lana, who runs the town's cafe. Mo and Dale formed a detective agency and soon get a real murder to investigate.

The humor and interesting cast of characters are what keep the pages turning in this series starter. Mo narrates and her dry observations are often laugh out loud funny. Readers will fall in love with Mo and Dale and all the inhabitants of Tupelo Landing. The book was published in 2012 and was named a Newbery Honor.
