#tbt features Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. This work of historical fiction was published to strong reviews in 2011 and was the author's debut. It is the story of Lina and her family, who were forced from their homes by the Stalin's army during WWII and deported to Siberia to work in a labor camp. The book was a finalist for the both the Morris Award and Amelia Walden Award. It was named a New York Times Notable Book and short-listed for the Carnegie Medal. It has also been translated into nearly thirty languages and was adapted for film and released under the title, Ashes in the Snow. In 2016, a companion novel, Salt to the Sea, was published.
