It was published in 2003 and won both the Printz Medal and Coretta Scott King Author Award. First Part Last is told in the first-person by sixteen-year-old Bobby as he tries to care for his infant daughter. The prose is spare in this brief yet impactful novel. Bobby is a bright, thoughtful teen who loves his girlfriend and his daughter and wishes to right by both.
